The Beginning
IREENS FOOOD FOR THOUGHT was founded in the heart of northern province rural Zambia, inspired by the urgent need to address the fight against hunger in the rural zambian communities. Our founders recognized that countless children were attendintg schools hungry, lacking not just food but hope for a better future. With a vision to provide sustenance and support, we embarked on our mission to create impactful feeding programs.
Our Growth
Since its existance, IREENS FOOD FOR THOUGHT has expanded its reach, developing sustainable feeding initiatives that serve thousand of vulnerable children in the northern region of Zambia. Through collaboration with local communities and dedicated volunteers, we have successfully implemented programs that not only address immediate nutritional needs but also promote long-term health and education. Our growth is a testament to the power of collective action.

Executive Director & Founder
Our Executive Director leads the strategic initiatives at IREENS FOOD FOR THOUGHT, ensuring that our mission aligns with the needs of the community. With years of experience in non-profit Organisation having Volunteered for many years for Diabetes Association of Zambia an organisation that raised money for vulnarable Diabetic children who could not afford to buy insulin due to poverty, she is passionate about improving the lives of vulnerable children.
Program Coordinator
The Program Coordinator plays a pivotal role in overseeing our feeding programs, from planning to execution. With a background in community development, they work closely with local partners to implement effective solutions that directly benefit children.
Volunteer Team
Our Volunteer Team members are responsible for making sure every children is fed, because we believ that a satisfied kid stays in school. Their enthusiasm and commitment inspire others to join our cause, making a significant impact on the community.
Our Impactful Initiatives
Transforming lives through dedicated efforts
The Nutritional Outreach Program
This initiative was launched to provide consistent balanced meals to children in remote villages of northern province of Zambia. Over the years ahead., Significantly improving the health and well-being of participating children. Feedback from families reflects a newfound hope and appreciation for the support provided.
School Feeding Initiative
In collaboration with local schools, our School Feeding Initiative aims to ensure that children receive at least one balanced meal during their school day. This program has not only improved attendance rates but has also fostered a better learning environment, allowing children to focus on their education without the distraction of hunger.
Community Awareness Campaign
Through our Community Awareness Campaign, we educated families on nutrition and health practices. This initiative empowers parents with knowledge about balanced diets and the importance of proper nutrition, creating a ripple effect of positive health practices within the community.
ABOUT OUR FOUNDER
Ireene Bwalya grew up in Kapata village outside Kasama Zambia. After spending the last twenty years in the UK, and happly married in scotland for the past ten years. Ireene returned to her roots on visits home and recognised the urgent need for change. Driven by her first hand knowledge and deep compasion, she decided to take action.
ABOUT THE CO-FOUNDER
JADE MCNEILL
Jade worked in fundraising and events for over 20 years now. Varying from local events supporting her community, volunteering for various causes, having a 2-year internship whilst working and studying, and running events for larger scale charities.
Whilst working for Action for Children she was made aware of the challenges that the children and their families face in the UK with a much larger support network. When Ireene had mentioned that families in Northern province rural Zambia choose between education and food this broke her heart and knew she would like to help where possible. She created everything for the application to become a charity which has helped bring us where we are. Now that the charity is up and properly running she is hoping with further support Ireene will be able to get the funding needed.
She has the abilities to motivate others and gain buy in where needed in line with donor relations. Jade is also passionate about raising awareness of the issues faced by vulnerable children in Northern Province Rural Zambia, believing that education and nutrition are fundamental rights. She actively engages with local communities and stakeholders, fostering partnerships that enhance program effectiveness. By sharing stories and successes, she aims to inspire others to join the cause, reinforcing the importance of collective action in creating sustainable change for these children.
